Horticulture Training

City & Guilds NVQ Level 1 Horticulture

Student planting a large pot.

Using our extensive facilities at Roots and Shoots, including a large heated greenhouse, polytunnel, outside beds, and dedicated sales area, this largely practical course takes students through the basics of horticulture and more.

In common with other NVQ courses it is portfolio-based with no examination at the end. Students build up a portfolio throughout the course which demonstrates their competence in the set areas:

Each unit is broken down into between 2 and 3 elements.

Students collecting willow.

The qualification is a very good introduction to horticulture covering areas which will be needed if the student decides to go on to work for a maintenance contractor, an indoor plant specialist or to study further.
