Roots and Shoots
Moth Night Celebration Event Saturday 13th September
Celebrate the diversity and beauty of moths with an evening of music, food, games and slide shows - as well as the moths themselves. * Check the Wildlife blog for a report*
On Saturday 13th September we will be holding a grand moth night with one of the UK's leading moth experts and joint author of the definitive identification guide to moths, Paul Waring. Paul has also promised us some live music and great chat and we are organising hot food (Asian food from our friend Arfa) to while away the hours waiting for moths to go into those traps! Geologist and rap artist, Toyin Solanke, is also coming to get us singing about moths - she says her lyrics will wander over 'flowering flora and fluttering fauna' and, given her interest in fossils, you may even hear of 'petrified papillons'. Children over about 8 are welcome, with accompanying adults, and we will play the bat and moth game again. Start at about 7.00 pm and stay as late as you like - at least at this time of year we should start catching moths well before 'bed time'. David will run the Roots and Shoots traps the night before - given good weather - so we also hope to have moths to see that we 'prepared earlier'.
The event is being supported by the Friends of Roots and Shoots. Toyin Solanke can be seen in the BBC4 Series 'Fossil Detectives' (Thursdays at 7.30pm in the South of England episode).
