June wildlife in the garden
After a good spring season for the mason bees there are now many completed nests in holes in the garden. got some excellent films of them sealing their nests. Leaf-cutter bees are now active as are other solitary bees. Wool carder bees appeared and were active on 31st May/Friday 1st june.
After filming the long-tailed tit adults visiting their nest during late May, it was found destroyed after the long bank holiday weekend. It was fine on Thursday 24th May - young definitely present. However, on return, Weds 29th, most of the nest had been removed. The base of the nest was still present with an unhatched egg. The lack of disturbance to the surrounding vegetation and little debris to be seen, the most likely culprit is a magpie (not the cats this time round!)
