People Roots and Shoots work with
Roots and Shoots works with a number of outside organisations, crafts people and artists. Below we introduce some of them:
Martha Macdonald, artist-ceramist and keen gardener/educator has been working with David on many projects since 1999. She has made two striking murals with trainees at Roots and Shoots - on the wall by the 'Bubble Gate' and in the form of a totem-pole-signpost by the beech hedge. There are several of her ceramic sculptures in the Wildlife Garden - the guardians on the path to the Wildlife Garden, in the Paradise Corner and around the meadow. She worked with David when we assisted Agnes Knoll (then at Walworth Garden Farm now at Bankside Open Spaces Trust) to make a garden for Chelsea in 2004 - her apple sculptures for this have been in the Wildlif Garden and also now on the rubble roof for insects to nest in. Her "nesting heads" have proved popular with wool carder bees (below). Martha also works at Ethelred Nursery and at Tate Modern and exhibits her ceramic sculptures regularly.
Working on "Lambeth's Living Waters":

Kath Shortland is an artist blacksmith based at the Kew Steam Museum who has offered very popular metalwork workshops to students and the UKC group. She has produced a number of really beautiful and functional objects for us, which have included: student lockers and gates for the shop.

Karen Livesey is a film maker and shiatsu therapist. Karen was first commissioned to produce an adaptation of our student induction taking it from a written form to a film. The result was a very inventive piece of work which presented very complex ideas in an easly accessible form. Karen has continued to work with Roots and Shoots producing 2 more films with students and offering shiatsu sessions during our open events.
